Maithry Family celebrated Onam'09 in Santa Clara on September 12, 2009 with Onam sadya, cultural program and Maithry Social Hour. Over 400 Malayalees attended the event. For the first time in Maithry's history Onam Sadya was catered. Everyone agreed we had an excellent sadya with all Kerala items, delivered by Sitara Indian Cuisine of Santa Clara. The sadya was served on banana leaves, as we have traditionally done in Kerala.
Cultural programs were held at the Santa Clara High School theater. The programs included a fusion Malayalam song with Maveli, Bharathanatyam dances, Mohini Attam, Thiruvathira Kali, a funny skit about Maveli visiting Kerala during the H1N1 scare etc. Some of the videos are available at Maithry's vimeo channel. After the cultural programs we had an opportunity for some more mingling at the Maithry Social Hour with tea and parippuvada!
We had such a great help from all the volunteers and we are appreciative of the enthusiastic response and support from all Maithry members. Looking forward to even greater support from Maithry members at future events.
